Lecture 003: Ortho Meta Para

We first covered a few more electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions such as nitration, sulfonation and Friedel-Crafts acylation. The advantage of using acylation followed by a Clemmensen reduction over Friedel-Crafts acylation was discussed. Hydrogenation of the aromatic ring was briefly looked at. Most of the lecture involved accounting for ortho/para and meta directing groups, as well as activating and deactivating effects.
